My Top 5 Highlight Products

In my group of friends, I’m known as ‘the highlight one’. There are 2 people I blame for my obsession; firstly, my friend Courtney from college, who has the best makeup skills of all the friends I’ve ever had, and Jamie Genevieve, who was ultimately her inspiration and is now mine.

I’ve tried a fair few highlight products in my time; from powders to creams to liquids, I’ve tried them all. I thought I’d share a few of my favourites with you – after all, who doesn’t want to glow like a queen?! As you might be able to tell from the products I’ve gone for, I prefer to glow like the moon rather than the sun…

Anastasia Beverley Hills Moonchild Glow Kit

I wanted this palette for MONTHS before I caved and bought it. Although I love my higher-end makeup, I’m not as impulsive as you might think (unless there’s a sale on, I’ll give you that one!) And to be honest, I’m a bit wary about spending £40 on a product I’ve never seen in person before. But I really wanted to try this highlight palette, so I caved towards the end of last year. And I’m so glad I did.

There are 6 shades of highlight in the palette – some less subtle than others! I love using Pink Heart for a subtle warm glow – it goes well with daytime looks. For a strong highlight, I like to use Blue Ice, or for something a little more ‘out there’ Green Clover catches the light really well! I find the ABH highlight really buildable too – a must for someone like me.

Sleek Solstice Palette

I think I’ve seen this palette on every single blogger’s Instagram. To be fair, it’s a gorgeous little kit. This is the only Sleek product I own, although my love for this one suggests I should invest in a few more! That being said, it turns out they’ve discontinued the palette – I’ve just discovered this, and I’m not a happy bunny.

I’m not a massive fan of the cream highlight in this palette – that’s not specific to this particular highlight, I’m just not a fan of cream products. My absolute favourite has got to be the top right powder – it looks really purple, but it’s not, I promise! It’s one of the strongest highlight products I own (which would explain why I love it so much). I find myself always reaching for this one when highlighting my nose and cupid’s bow (even if I’ve used another product elsewhere). I have also been known to layer it on top of this next product, for an even stronger look…

Iconic London Highlighting Illuminator Drops in Shine

This is another influencer favourite. Iconic London recently added a couple of new shades to their range, and I decided to try out Shine at the start of the year. The main thing to emphasise about this product is that you really, really don’t need much of it! In fact, I don’t even use the actual eye-dropper yet – I just take a little from the end of the eye-dropper and it’s enough for my entire face.

This highlight is one of the prettiest I’ve ever seen. Like the others, it’s pretty buildable, and it’s similar to the Pink Heart tone of the ABH Moonchild palette. I love a subtle pink highlight – but I also adore a strong one! I’ve seen some people apply this with a beauty blender, but to be honest, I prefer to use my fingers for precision. It’s a little pricey, but a bottle of illuminating drops will last you for a very, very long time.

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone

I wanted to try BECCA highlight for the longest time. Everyone seemed to rave about Opal – but my sister bought me a little kit for Christmas, and told me that Moonstone was a better shade for my skin tone. I can’t disagree with her, I love using Moonstone so much!

It’s not necessarily as buildable as the other highlight products I’ve mentioned, but this one comes in two parts, so it doesn’t have to be. I use a little liquid highlight for precision, and then add some of the pressed powder highlight for an extra bit of shimmer.

NYX Away We Glow Liquid Highlight in Moon Glow

There really is a moon theme throughout this post, isn’t there?! I picked this one up when I was over at the NYX counter at Glasgow Fort. It was the lightest shade they had – Moon Glow gives an almost sheen finish instead of shimmer, in the same way as the Iconic London one (a definite plus for using liquid highlight if you’re all about subtle glow). It’s not one that I reach for all the time, because I like things to pop a little bit more, but it’s a bloody nice highlight all the same!
