Winter Favourites: Beauty!

March 3, 2016

My winter beauty routine differs so much from my summer one. As well as the obvious changes in tones, skincare becomes so much more important (thanks to the freezing temperatures and central heating). Here are a few of my must-have beauty favourites for this winter :)

Simple are my absolute go-to brand for skincare. Their gentle products mean that I don’t have to worry about my skin breaking out constantly; and their range of moisturisers means that I have a product for every climate. Every day I tend to opt for their Hydrating Light Moisturiser but in winter my skin sometimes needs an extra boost of moisture, particularly after showering. I’ve been reaching for their Replenishing Rich Moisturiser when my skin feels like an extra bit of TLC. Although a richer consistency than their lighter moisturisers, it doesn’t feel heavy on my skin and absorbs really quickly. I love using it right before bedtime too!

My other favourite Simple product of the moment is the Micellar Cleansing Water. Micellar products seemed to come out of nowhere last year – and I’ve never looked back! I love using this first thing in the morning and last thing at night – my skin feels refreshed and clean without using any harsh face washes. Don’t believe me? Take your make up off using a face wipe then use this afterward – and you’ll see how much was still on your skin!

There’s something about the winter season that makes me want to pamper myself a little more than usual. For me, that usually means running myself a nice hot bath with Spotify playing in the background. It’s really important to get some ‘me time’ occasionally! I’m a huge fan of bubble baths and although I’m usually loyal to Radox and their gorgeous-smelling concoctions, I received Zoella’s Soak Opera Bath Soak/Shower Cream from her classic range as a Christmas present. I love Zoe’s range anyway, so I was really excited to try it out! The bubble bath has the same scent as the Blissful Mistful fragrance – and it produces lots of bubbles!

After emerging from the bath relaxed and smelling lush, everyone loves a nice body lotion to keep their skin feeling soft. It’s only right to follow up Zoe’s bubble bath with her Creamy Madly Dreamy Body Lotion – again it’s the same scent, so you’ll smell amazing! It’s not too thick, so it absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave a greasy feel to your skin. Perfect for when you want to curl up in bed and chill!

As much as I love a strong lip during winter, I’ve found myself re-exploring my old favourites from earlier in the year too. Recently I’ve re-discovered my love for Tanya Burr’s Chic Lip Gloss, which is a natural nude shade from her original collection. It’s my favourite lip gloss in the world; it makes my lips look really full, and it goes perfectly with an everyday makeup look. Unfortunately since Tanya’s range was rebranded, this one appears to have dropped off, however Daydream looks to be a good replacement!

Similarly to lip colours, I love using darker blush in the winter months. Normally I use Peaches by MAC to give me a little glow on the apples of my cheeks, but I’ve been loving using Fever instead to give a a slightly darker warmth to my face. It goes really well with my lighter foundation (MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NW10) too – perfect for wintry looks! MAC blushers are super pigmented, so you only need to use a tiny amount – I find just using the top of my Real Techniques blush brush is ideal.

The past few months have been all about Revlon for me. It’s not a brand I normally go for, but I’m loving their Colorburst Matte Lip Balm in Sultry that I purchased a few months ago. They’ve launched a lot more shades recently, which is going to dent my bank account slightly – I want them all! I’ve also been using their ColorStay 24hr foundation in Ivory – it’s literally the most mattifying foundation I’ve ever used. Finally, I’ve also re-discovered my love for their Rose Glow Highlighter Palette – although a subtle colour, it gives an adorable pink glow and a touch of shimmer to the cheeks. Perfect for daytime looks.

I’ve also recently become even more obsessed with Real Techniques brushes – I’ve been using them for a while, but I picked up the Expert Face Brush around a month ago. I’ve been using my MAC 190 to apply my foundation, but the time had arrived to replace it; I was unsure whether to re-purchase the MAC one, but it’s a tad pricey, and I’d heard SO many beauty bloggers and vloggers raving about the Real Techniques brush. It was a fraction of the price, and I’m so pleased with it. It’s quite firm with a small diameter, so it’s perfect for applying foundation. It also cleans brilliantly, which is a must for any foundation brush! I’ve been recommending this brush to all of my friends – definitely an essential in everyone’s brush collection.

My favourite fragrance at the moment is one that I received as a Christmas present – I’ve never owned a Marc Jacobs fragrance before, but Decadence just smells incredible. The bottle is shaped like a little handbag (similar to the classic Sui Dreams by Anna Sui) and gives that little piece of luxury – the scent lasts for hours (literally, you don’t need to spray lots!) and has an indulgent, almost woody, scent. I hate having to constantly top up my fragrance when I’m out so this eau de parfum is ideal. It makes me feel like a million dollars!

That’s just a few of my favourite winter beauty products – before you know it, I’ll be showing you my spring ones! :)
